Departure Information

Time to move out of your University accommodation?

We hope that you have enjoyed your time living in Swansea University residences.

Below are a few pointers to help with your departure. As you are responsible for the condition of your room and communal areas of your floor or flat until the end of your contract, we have put together a checklist of things you need to do before you leave.

Don't forget, if you leave your accommodation earlier than your contract end date, your contractual and financial commitment will still apply.

Departure Checklist

  • Clean the communal areas, such as your kitchen and bathrooms
  • Remove all your belongings from your accommodation, including your room and communal areas
  • Lock your bedroom door and the windows within your accommodation to prevent anyone from accessing your room once you have left    
  • Report any damage before you depart
  • Return any equipment that may have been loaned
  • Collect any post which may have been delivered before you depart
  • Return keys to your Site Reception (or key return box/mailbox outside of opening times) before 10am on the last day of your contract
  • Complete our Pre-Departure Online Check Out form

Forwarding your mail

If you have mail delivered to your residence address, contact your bank, credit card provider and other relevant parties and notify them of your replacement address. There are plenty of standard template letters on the web to assist you.

Alternatively, you can arrange mail re-direction with Royal Mail to have your post sent to your new address, or your home outside of term time.

Charity Donations

If you decide to have a clear out when packing up your room, you can donate your unwanted items, such as clothing, shoes, books, kitchenware, small electrical items, accessories and bric-a-brac to charity.

There are Donation Points located at site Receptions, as well as:

  • Bay Campus:
    • British Heart Foundation bin near Dolbardarn residence
    • YMCA bin outside Reception
  • Singleton Park Campus:
    • All residence foyers
    • Car park outside Preseli Reception
    • YMCA bins in the Library and Faraday Tower

Unopened food and bedding should be taken to residence Receptions for donation or recycling. It is also worth contacting local charity shops or refuges in Swansea to see if they need items or are looking for donations. Working with local charities will help prevent excessive waste and rubbish.

If you need to store any belongings before you move in to your new home, there are a few storage companies in the area. You may wish to consider

We suggest you plan ahead and shop around online to find a good deal. The University is not liable for arranging this, or for paying any costs associated with storing items.
