Our International Excellence Scholarships (Africa) are available for students from African countries who demonstrate academic excellence or show potential studying at Swansea University. Scholarships are awarded as a discount on tuition fees. Full terms and conditions are available on the application form.

The scheme is open to International Swansea Alumni candidates applying for a Taught Master’s or Research degree in any subject area.

The definition of ‘alumni’ is candidates who have successfully completed a ‘full’ degree programme at Swansea University for example:

• students who have qualified with a Bachelor degree applying for a Taught Master’s or Research programme.

Or

• a Taught Masters’ student applying for a further Taught course, subject to meeting Same Level Study regulations.

Or

• a Taught Masters’ student applying for Research programme. 
  
  

 The following candidates are NOT eligible for an Alumni Bursary:

• Students deemed eligible to pay tuition fees at the Home (UK) rate
• Exchange students
• Visiting/Associate students (including English Language students)
• The College, Swansea University Foundation/Pre-Master’s Programme students
• CELTA students, GDL and LPC students
• Students qualifying with an ‘exit’ qualification
• Students upgrading from MPhil to PhD.

Awards

Admissions will advise applicants on their offer letter if they are eligible for the award.

Eligibility:

1. Students must be assessed as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes in relation to their most recent postgraduate application.
2. Alumni Bursaries are only available to students who have met the minimum academic requirement for an award (see above table for details).

3. Alumni Bursaries are available for both full and part-time study. For students studying part-time, the award will be made on a pro-rata basis.

   Students must have satisfactorily completed the original degree programme that they were admitted to at Swansea University (excludes ‘fall-back’ qualifications).
   
   

Terms and Conditions:

1. Students must normally be privately funded**.  The Alumni Bursary cannot be taken in conjunction with any scholarship from a student’s national government or other sponsor.
2. The Alumni Bursary may only be used to offset tuition fees.
3. A reduced tuition fee will be levied at enrolment for the duration of the programme of study, subject to satisfactory annual progression.
4. Alumni Bursaries are non-transferable.
5. Employees of Swansea University will not be eligible.
6. The Admissions and Recruitment Committee may use whatever means of assessment it thinks most appropriate in order to determine which candidates are worthy of recommendation to Senate for the award of an Alumni Bursary. 
7. Alumni Bursary holders, having accepted an award, may be contacted by the University’s Public Relations Office.
8. If it is deemed necessary for an Alumni Bursary holder to suspend their studies, the Bursary will be held on University account and carried forward to the year of resumption of studies and the student will be expected to pay their personal contribution on a pro-rata basis.
9. With the approval of the Vice-Chancellor or nominee, if an Alumni Bursary holder’s progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory, the Bursary may be withdrawn. If the student feels that such a withdrawal is unjustified, s/he may appeal in writing, using the University’s formal appeal mechanism.
10. Senate reserves the right to make, amend, withdraw, suspend or cancel without notice these and such other Regulations as may be in force from time to time and such decisions shall be final.  

 **Students in receipt of a part-scholarship (up to 50% of full tuition fee) may be considered for an alumni award.

Music Scholarships at Swansea University

Overview

Our choral and organ scholarship scheme is designed to support the scholar's development as a musician, in partnership with St Mary’s Church, Swansea. The scholarships are funded jointly between the University, St Mary’s Church, and the Swansea St Mary’s Choral Trust (SSMCT).

Scholars receive the following benefits:

• Up to fifteen hours of individual tuition per year in their instrument or voice
• An annual bursary of £650

Scholars are expected to participate fully in the music of St Mary’s Church, Swansea. 

How to apply

Scholarship applications require the submission of an application form and references and a face-to-face audition.

• Scholarships are available to all students studying taught degree courses.
• Applications are only accepted from currently enrolled students; the deadline for applications is 22nd October 2022.

Regulations and eligible instruments

The scholarship scheme is governed by the current Music Scholarship Regulations. Note that the regulations and application form additionally make reference to other types of music scholarship which are not currently offered by the University.

Overview

The scheme aims to cover the enormous spectrum of talent which young people reveal in individual and team sports. We look for students who not only satisfy the normal academic requirements for admission but who have also demonstrated outstanding ability in whatever sporting sphere they have made their specialty.

The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship programme offers scholarships worth up to £10,000 - to study a full-time masters programme at a Welsh university in 2024. The scholarships are available to students from Vietnam, India, USA, Canada and countries of the European Union. This prestigious scheme is funded by the Global Wales Programme – a partnership between the Welsh Government, Universities Wales, The British Council and HEFCW.

You need to have already applied for a place to study an eligible postgraduate programme before you submit your scholarship application.

Applications should be submitted via the Global Wales website and any questions relating to the Scholarship should be directed to: scholarship@uniswales.ac.uk 

ELIGIBILITY, TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

• Applicants must have applied for and received an offer to study at Swansea University at Master’s level in September 2024 (January 2025 entry applicants are not eligible for this scholarship)

• Students studying for a PhD, MPhil, Masters by Research, Graduate Diploma in Law, Postgraduate Diploma, Postgraduate Certificate or Erasmus Mundus programme are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

• Successful applicants will not be able to combine The Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship with any other scholarship that Swansea University offers.

• Successful candidates will have their tuition fee levied at enrolment. Candidates must confirm acceptance of their scholarship, accept an offer of a place on a course and pay their £4,000 deposit.

• Scholarship holders, having accepted an award, are reasonably expected to co-operate in Swansea University recruitment activities and automatically agree to their names and details being released by the University’s International Development Office for marketing purposes.

• Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the awarding committee

Commonwealth Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are offered to citizens from low and middle income Commonwealth countries. Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Swansea University is offering one £10 000 scholarship to students from Thailand pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK.

To meet the eligibility criteria you need to apply to study MEng, MSci, MSc, MPharm, MBBCh, MA, LLM or MRes postgraduate courses at Swansea.

Please note that applicants should be passport holders of Thailand.

The Swansea University International Postgraduate Research Excellence Scholarship (SUIPRES) is a competitively awarded scholarship scheme open to overseas PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants, who are eligible for the international rate of tuition fees and can demonstrate excellence in academic achievement.

The SUIPRES Scholarship covers the difference between the International and the Home tuition fee rate for the duration of the PhD/Professional Doctorate programme. Successful candidates will be charged fees aligned to the UK rate per year. The scholarship is offset against your tuition fees, and the scholarship value will be deducted from your tuition fees.

Please note, this scheme is not open to master's level students.
