Swansea University holds the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award in recognition of our commitment to support the Career Development of Research Staff.
The award was first attained by the University in 2010 and renewed in January 2013, January 2015, January 2017, June 2019, January 2021 and April 2023. It recognises our commitment to support the Career Development of Research Staff, including our implementation of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Research Staff. View Concordat & Award SubmissionsThe RISWG is chaired by Ian Mabbett (Professor and Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Culture) and includes research staff from each Faculty (nominated by Heads of Faculty/Directors of Research), and members from Human Resources, Swansea Employability Academy (SEA), Research Engagement & Innovation Services (REIS), Digital Services and UCU (Trade Union).
Reporting into the Research Innovation, Impact Committee (RIIC). it oversees the delivery of the Concordat Action Plan, to support the Career Development of Researchers.

The Culture, Employment and Development in Academic Research Survey (CEDARS) survey gathers the views and experiences of researchers across the UK, in the context of the revised Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, which aims to create the best culture for researchers to thrive.
