Sport scholar Panayiotis Panaretos took to the world stage in July, representing his country at the 20th Edition of the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
This prestigious international swimming event was organised by the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics), bringing together 2400 of the world’s top water sports athletes from 200 countries to compete in 75 events across six disciplines: Swimming, diving, high diving, water polo, artistic swimming and open water swimming.
Approximately 500,000 people were thought to have visited this 17-day spectacle of world aquatics, spread across multiple venues across Japan’s 5th largest city, in which Panayiotis, who studies computer science at Swansea, competed in the 100m breaststroke race; an incredible opportunity to represent Cyprus on the world stage!
