We caught up with Megan, our Sports Officer!
Term one kicked off to a great start with Full Time Officer for Sport, Megan Chagger, working on a range of student experience projects. Megan oversees the day-to-day activities and functioning of all 56 sports clubs at Swansea University, providing a key point of contact between the Student Union and Sport Swansea, and assists in working collaboratively on sporting projects, for example, the upcoming Welsh Varsity.
Throughout her time in the role, Megan hopes to ensure sports students achievements are highlighted through the social media channels, encourage student engagement and participation at development and elite levels across all sports, and increase funding for all teams.
This year’s Sports Officer is really passionate about how getting involved in sport and physical activity can support students through their university journey. With an ambition to ensure we deliver a first class sporting experience at Swansea, Meg has got off to a flying start, successfully running a ladies day to raise awareness for breast cancer, helping to secure ‘Cost of Living’ hardship funding to support students with their finances in sport, creating a new ‘Swansea Come Dancing’ Movember event, and organising the Varsity Captains’ photoshoot ready for the event launch!
It really has been a busy term for Meg. The impact she has had on our sports clubs has been phenomenal, including increasing awareness of club sport amongst our current students and encouraging a whole host of charitable fundraising activities across our clubs.
With a busy term ahead of us, we caught up with Meg to see what exciting new projects she is working on over the next few months.
The Welsh Varsity returns to Swansea on Wednesday 24th April, where the event will see our teams go head-to-head with Cardiff and compete for a chance to win the coveted Welsh Varsity shield.
Meg will play a vital role in the delivery of Varsity, helping ensure this important sporting event for Swansea runs smoothly and provides the best experience for our students. And this year, she’s planning to bring you a Varsity to remember!
Meg is hard at work developing new Varsity merchandise for the students this year, which we’re sure our GWA will be proud to wear as they cheer on our teams at the Swansea Bay Sports Park & Swansea.com stadium. Meg’s certain these new freebies will help get our fans excited and ensure they have one of the best days in their university experience.
Meg is also working with the Sport Swansea Team to trial some new sports at this year’s event. Meg’s ambition is that all clubs will eventually take part in our festival of sport, so keep your eyes peeled for the new additions and keep an eye on our socials for regular updates in the run up to what’s going to be an unforgettable event in your Swansea memories!
We’re loving working with Meg this year and are looking forward to helping her to realise her ambitions to develop the sporting experience at Swansea!
