Founder & CEO, TeenShare Startup
Manager of EFG bank and Founder & CEO of a Startup “TeenShare” (TeenShare is an AI &VR online mentor marketplace from Hong Kong, I launched the TeenShare start-up with the goal to solve the problem of youth unemployment after graduation.
The idea of my start-up is to connect young people, who don’t have the related knowledge, skill set, or guidance and network with different industry specialists, who can teach them the right set of career skills and help to improve their career development, change career direction or launch their business.
By providing 1-to-1 learning with industry specialists, young people receive a personalized learning experience that they can apply to their real-life careers. To upskill them, I and my team offer online courses covering different subjects that can enhance soft skills, digital skills, and other up-to-trend skills. Connecting and Networking via the platform with youth who share the same career goals, background, and industry will enable them to reshape their network and stay updated with all the industry news and job opportunities.
Despite the popularity of online education, I consider that providing offline career coaching and mentoring for high school and the university is still important and valuable because young people can plan their careers ahead, and we can empower and navigate them to get into their desired career paths.
Summary of your Swansea University experience
My time in Swansea was the most amazing time of my life. I have made lifelong friends, whom I visit and still actively keep in touch with after our first meetings. Swansea University has provided me with a conducive environment to achieve success and given me the confidence and skills that enabled my success after graduation. It is still my favourite place.
What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea?
1. ICWS, the beginning of my university life, I have enhanced my English language and foundation of my business senses by learning and share the culture and experience with different international students.
2. Llys Glas, where I met my best friend Raymond who taught me literally everything about personal skills, even how to drive by practising parking skills and entrepreneurial mindset.
3. Town centre, I enjoyed going to nightclubs, restaurants, Joe’s ice cream, and the cinema.
Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?
I choose Swansea because I wanted to explore and develop myself not only in Hong Kong but also in a place connected to the whole world. Therefore, I looked for different information and opportunities to study aboard, and later, my high school teacher recommended me to consider Swansea University. After some research, I found that this is an amazing place for study, because I can study being surrounded by beautiful views and environments.
Would you recommend Swansea University to someone thinking of going to University?
I am a private banker and an entrepreneur; someone might consider that I am successful as I have launched a start-up and I have worked in a very competitive private banking field. This was accomplished because I undertook a meaningful and challenging journey when I studied at Swansea University. Studying abroad alone at the age of 18 years could be challenging, but these experiences and challenges that I had at Swansea University not only made me stronger but also shaped me into the person that I am today. Therefore, I would 100% recommend Swansea University to someone thinking to go abroad for studying.
How did your degree prepare you for your career?
I worked in Banking Operations, Corporate Banking, and Private Banking in Hong Kong. Nonetheless, the key advantage I had over other young professionals was my ability to solve problems or investigate issues by thinking outside of the box and creating field experiments. As a result of my degree, I have a sound understanding of finance and accounting theory to understand the business world. I was able to analyse the annual report and financial models due to my knowledge. All these factors contributed and promoted me to a Managerial position and to victories in some start-up competitions. I won a patent from Nokia and have been interviewed by a local TV news channel. Thanks to my knowledge and experience gained at university, I transformed into a proactive and dared-to-dream big person.
What advice would you give to students who want to pursue your career?
Hard-working, hard-working, and hard-working, nothing is easy in this world, dare to dream big and a can-do mindset can lead you to your dream. If you want to pursue my career, plan ahead and work hard until it happens.
