Swansea University has played a key role in the response to Covid-19, with help of our fantastic Swansea community. Since the outbreak began, we have successfully funded several unique and globally collaborated research projects into the pandemic, helped our own students in their time of need and supported our front-line workers by providing additional PPE and hand sanitiser.
Donations to the Covid-19 response fund will help us to provide the most supportive and caring environment possible for our students, from those suffering financially to those whose families and friends have been directly affected by the outbreak. By boosting the funding available to our hardship and wellbeing services, we will be ideally positioned to support our students as fully as possible both now and in the concerning future. The University has dramatically increased its contribution in this area and received tremendous support from alumni and friends, but the unprecedented demand for the service continues to outpace what we are able to provide.
The kindness and compassion that we value in our Swansea University community could not have been more important than in recent months. The money raised so far has enabled us to support many of our students - many of whom are still feeling the negative financial impact of Covid-19.
“The bursaries and additional funds have allowed me to save a deposit for somewhere to rent as I’m moving soon to start my new career. This has meant I have not had to worry about homelessness after university finished, which for me was a massive, massive worry."
Your support has ensured that the bursary provision for students who are care leavers and for those who are carers has increased for 2020/21, and our newly introduced Estranged Student Bursary is providing much needed financial support to students who are irreconcilably estranged from their families. While we recognise and appreciate that many of you will have been affected by the crisis, we hope that you will support us if you are able to. If you're not in a position to donate, you can still help us by sharing this page on social media and with your friends and family so that we can reach as many people as we can.
We’d like to say a special thank you to all those who have shown such generosity supporting our students. We are hugely grateful for your support!
