An International Conference
Swansea University research group CEPSAM (Centre for the Comparative Study of Portugal, Spain and the Americas) hosted an online conference 'Green Hispanisms’ on 6-8 July 2021.
The resurgent theme of the environment provides a thought-provoking interface between numerous disciplines ranging from Literature and History to Media, Politics, Geography and Life Sciences.
Although scholars from the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and Lusophone Africa are already involved in intercontinental collaboration and dialogue on issues connected to ecocriticism, research publication in this area has been limited. It is equally true, however, that some momentum is gathering: contemporary Latin Americanists and Spanish Peninsular scholars are beginning to rewrite ecological theory as they apply it to new contexts, thereby enriching multicultural, transnational, and interdisciplinary debates about literature, art, and the future of the planet.
The participation of the Swansea Environment Forum (Swansea Council) enriched discussions by providing details of local priorities and identifying pathways for university-community collaboration.
