Santander Mobility Awards
In 2015/16, 43 awards had already been allocated to staff across all Colleges of the University to develop links and synergies in North and South America, Spain, Portugal and Russia. In 2015/16, priority given to applications for the development or strengthening of links with institutions in Latin American countries. The aim of this relationship is also to grow post graduate student numbers from the Latin American region: particularly Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Patagonia.
“We recognised the opportunities in this region to grow within the STEMM Subjects which matched Swansea University’s unique strengths.” Says Cristina Monteiro-Mudresh, Regional Manager for Latin America at Swansea University.
An increase in funding from Santander allowed the university to part fund up to 50 members of staff. The ‘Favela Painting’ by Dr Richard Smith of Swansea University’s College of Science was a Research as Art Competition 2015 entry produced on an expedition supported by Santander. Students have become real advocates for Swansea University. A Santander Mobility Award presents a rare and compelling opportunity for students to study in Europe and to secure a prestigious UK degree qualification.

Funded Internships
In partnership with Santander, Swansea University is creating work placements to help students develop into Industry-ready graduates - and allow employers to see students in action.
Ocean Ecology

C-FEC
“Thanks to the financial support of the Santander Internship Programme, C-FEC were able to offer a short-term contract to a Graduate Engineer, who quickly became a highly reliable key player and a valuable team member.”
C-FEC would most certainly hire an intern again and state that there is nothing to dislike about the programme.
Quantum Advisory
“Quantum had a very positive experience with the programme. Using the Santander scheme was an effective way of identifying a suitable graduate for our Firm and the funding was an additional incentive for us to trial a graduate.
“We were very impressed with the support Swansea University provided with the selection process and the calibre of candidates they provided for us to interview. This has been a very positive experience and one we would definitely do again.”
Entrepreneurship
The Santander Universities Entrepreneurships Awards competition is held annually and has created a leadership and Enterprise mind-set throughout the University community.
Entrepreneurship is of particular interest to Santander and it seeks to promote a culture of enterprise and innovation which is pivotal to collaboration with universities.
With a £1,000 Bursary from Santander, Swansea student Temitope Balogun set up Great Worqs, a unique community for filmmakers and writers to create and collaborate together, whilst utilising a marketplace to distribute films, such as The New Stereotype which “uses fashion and photography to create positive imagery and celebrate the many diverse layers of black life”. http://greatworqs.tumblr.com/
Swansea University Enterprise Manager, Dave Bolton, stated that this is “a great opportunity to showcase and promote the entrepreneurial talent, from both staff members and students, in Swansea University as well as in Wales!”
Santander enterprise competition is open to all students with a viable business idea. The top three entries are awarded a £1,000 bursary from Santander.
