York University is situated in Toronto so if you enjoy big city living then this is the location for you.  Toronto experiences 4 distinct seasons with warm summers and cold winters with frequent snowfalls. York is the 3rd largest university in Canada, ranking highly for Business and Kinesiology. With over 300 clubs and student organisations there is plenty to occupy you outside of class.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Who can study here?

Swansea has a ‘university-wide’ partnership with this university which means that it is open to all subject areas except for American Studies, Social Policy or Law. 
Spaces are not guaranteed, can be limited and all students on a semester/year abroad programme are subject to a university-wide, competitive selection process.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs from September to April. 

COSTS: The average cost of living per month in York will vary depending on the type of accommodation and meal plan you select.  York estimates expenses that students can expect to pay in their online factsheet.  

VISA: You will need a Study Permit and will be required to provide financial evidence of at least CAN$20,635 (subject to change). The Study Permit application fee is approx. CAN$150. Your host university will provide you with more information about the application process. You must allow enough time to complete the study permit application and for your study permit to be processed and sent to you. The process can typically takes three months however, there can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Canada without it.

ACCOMMODATION: York University has limited on-campus housing as an option for exchange students. On-campus housing is not guaranteed. HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to pay the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) whilst at York.  You will be provided with more information on acceptance to York.
