Southern Denmark University, otherwise known as SDU, has been open since 1966. It is home to 32,000 students, and of these 20% are from countries other than Denmark. The University's campuses stretch across 6 cities - Odense, Esbjerg, Kolding, Copenhagen, Slagelse, and Sønderborg. Odense is the main campus of SDU, and nearly all the university’s programmes are represented here. The campus itself is approx. 3km from the city centre.
It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important information
ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs September to May.
COSTS: The cost of living in Southern Denmark will vary depending on the type of accommodation you select and your lifestyle. Southern Denmark signposts students to Study in Denmark webpage for a breakdown of expected costs while living as a student in Denmark.
VISA: You may need a student residence permit to study at Southern Denmark. SDU will initiate the application for a residence permit once you have been accepted as an exchange student. You will need to pay a processing fee of DKK 2,490 for your residence permit (subject to change). SDU will provide you with the most up to date visa and immigration information. More information can be found here. You must allow enough time to complete the application and for your residence permit to be sent to you. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Denmark without it.
ACCOMMODATION: On campus accommodation is guaranteed for exchange students, if you apply before the deadline. You will be informed of the deadline when completing your exchange application. More information on accommodation is available here.
HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to purchase health insurance before your arrival in Southern Denmark.
