The university is located in Turku the oldest city in Finland a 2 hour drive from Helsinki. Turku experiences warm summers and cold winters with frequent snowfall and temperatures normally in the minuses. The university is one of the leading intuitions in Finland and has lots of things for you to get involved with outside the classroom.  

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs August to May. 

COSTS: The cost of living in Turku will vary depending on the type of accommodation and meal plan you select. Turku estimate the average living expenses on their Financial Matters webpage

VISA: You may need a Residence Permit from your nearest Finnish embassy or consulate and will be required to provide financial evidence of at least 560 Euros per month, based on the 2024-2025 academic year. (subject to change). You will also be charged an application fee for your The Residence permit fee is approx. 350 Euros (subject to change). Your host university will provide you with more information about the process in your application and more information can be found here. You must allow enough time to complete the application and for your residence permit to be sent to you. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Finland without it.

ACCOMMODATION: The demand for student housing in Turku is extremely high. University of Turku cannot unfortunately guarantee or arrange housing for students and therefore we recommend that you apply housing well in advance, observing the deadlines set by individual housing providers.
