Italy, in the South of Europe, is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world and so you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do while on placement besides studying or working! Most of Italy has hot, dry summers, with July being the hottest month of the year. Autumns are generally rainy and winters are unsurprisingly colder in the North and milder in the South.

ACADEMIC YEAR: The academic year in Italy runs roughly from September to June. Exact dates will vary between universities. 

VISA: You may need a visa and/or residence permit for your stay in Italy. Please refer to the Italian Embassy website to find out more information. Your host university will provide you with updated information. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Italy without it.

HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to purchase mandatory health insurance for your time in Italy. You cannot use Swansea University's travel cover as a substitute for this. You will be provided with further information by your host university.
