Universiteit Utrecht is located in the city of Utrecht in the heart of the Netherlands, a 45 minute drive from Amsterdam and just under an hour from the German border. Utrecht is a vibrant city with a good atmosphere and an active student community. Utrecht University is a wide-range, international research university of high standing. Learning is based on a strong interdisiplinary approach and courses are taught in small groups to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas between students and lecturers.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

VISA: You will need an Entry Visa (MVV) and a Residence Permit (VVR) to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 3 months. The visa office at Utrecht University submits the application with the Dutch Immigration Services on your behalf and will be your only point of contact during the residence permit application procedure.  Further information and guidance will be emailed to you from Utrecht regarding the entry visa and residence permit.  You must allow enough time to complete the application and submit the necessary documents in time for the visa/permit to be processed for the start of term at Utrecht.  It can take three to four months to obtain an entry visa/residency permit so please do not leave this until the last minute.

ACCOMMODATION: Demand for student housing in Utrecht is extremely high.  University accommodation is not guaranteed for exchange students and it can take a while to source private accommodation.  Utrecht provide a lot of information and guidance on sourcing accommodation.  However, it is imperative you start looking early.
