Universidad de Deusto is made up of two campuses, which are based in Bilbao and San Sebastián. If you go on exchange as a Spanish student, you will be based on the Bilbao campus. Bilbao is the capital of the Biscay region in the Basque Country, Spain and the climate is milder than in most other parts of the peninsula, rarely falling below freezing in winter or rising above 35ºC in summer. It is the largest business and cultural city in Northern Spain, and is full of tradition and culture. The Basque Country is internationally recognized for its regional cuisine, which is pintxos (= tapas in the Basque language).

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Darcy's Experience

Darcy spent the year studying at the University of Deusto as part of her International Relations and Spanish degree at Swansea.

Bilbao is a small city with a rich culture. Its half an hour by train to the beach and surrounded by mountains so there are a lot of outdoor activities to try out. It was a great experience, and it really improved my confidence. It was so much fun to meet people from other cultures and to try so many things that I hadn’t experienced before. When you are abroad, push your boundaries, try different things. You may surprise yourself!
