Located in the heart of the Houston-Dallas-Austin triangle, Texas A&M is a coeducational public research university in College Station, Texas. It is a state flagship university, designated as a land, sea, and space grant institution–the only university in Texas to hold all three. Within its faculty there are 19 members of the national Academy of Engineering as well as 11 members of the National Academy of Science. Texas A&M has participated in more than 500 research projects in more than 80 countries.

Home to the George Bush Presidential Library, the main campus is one of the largest in the United States, spanning 5,200 acres. Texas A&M has over 1,000 student organizations to get involved with and around 88% of students will participate in a campus organization during their stay. In College Station, the summers are hot and oppressive; the winters are short, cold, and wet; and it is partly cloudy year round, so bring clothing suitable all weather conditions.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important considerations

  • You need to provide evidence of a bacterial meningitis vaccination. If you had a Bacterial Meningitis vaccination more than 5 years before the day you will begin your studies at Texas A&M, you will need to have a Bacterial Meningitis booster vaccination. This is not standard on the NHS and so you may need to get this done privately at a cost. Until you have evidence of this booster vaccination, Texas A&M will not be able to accept your application so you must take this into consideration.
  • Housing at TAMU is available but, not guaranteed. Exchange students can elect to live off-campus but, are responsible for locating off-campus
housing themselves. Students should only enter a lease term that corresponds to their exchange semester.
  • Exchange students are automatically enrolled in the international student health insurance each semester. The charge is billed to your student account and payment is due upon arrival. Please refer to the following website for health insurance information, requirements, and costs:
    http://iss.tamu.edu/Health-Insurance.
  • TAMU estimates that you should budget at least $19,000 per academic year for the exchange, be aware that this cost will rise for 24/25.
