Challenges

"One of the main challenges that led me to difficulty was homesickness. Despite acknowledging the greatness of the experience, I found myself becoming low and missing my friends, family and home comforts that were thousands of miles away. This was an extreme problem when I let the difference in culture get the best of me. However this setback actually forced me to become a more active member of the community and embrace every social opportunity that came my way."

Biggest Highlights

"My most fond memory of Texas is definitely the Spirit group I Joined “Forever Texas”. I joined the organisation in the spring semester and it was the best decision I made whilst abroad. It complexly changed my opinion of my time abroad and helped me gain a much larger sense of belonging within UT. The group acts as a family within the university, aiming to fulfil 3 main goals; Spirit, Service and Sisterhood...Helping with landscaping and maintenance at a local primary school was one of the events I was involved with, along with running a stand at a carnival to raise children with terminal illnesses." 

Reflection

"I am now naturally more sociable and outspoken can strive under pressure. I found myself looking for anything to get involved with. All I wanted to do was make the most out of being in a difference country, so I said yes to almost anything...It has definitely given me a more positive outlook on life."
