What made you decide to study at Swansea University?
The choice of a higher education institution for my Master's degree was crucial in my life. I decided to choose Swansea University for its educational system, which provides specific courses and taught modules. Moreover, the university ranked highly amongst the world's leading educational institutions and the UK. Also, the location of the University campuses makes the education process fascinating.
What part of your course do you enjoy the most?
In general, since I deliberately chose my course as it is related to my current career in banking, I have been enjoying the modules that we are studying. Most importantly, our study mainly focuses on relevant modules that provide a specific concept of the banking industry. Also, it is a great pleasure to interact with lecturers with a practical experience. Besides, I have to admit that most of our students already have work experience, enabling us to exchange experiences with representatives of different countries.
How do you get on with your lecturers? Are they supportive, helpful, approachable?
Most lecturers are practitioners; they teach what they have experienced in themselves or are active in the field they teach. These are particularly valuable for the students as they combine theory with practice to enhance their knowledge. The staff of lecturers is always friendly and supportive to students.
How flexible do you find the course? Do you have any favourite modules?
All of the modules are highly potential and cover specific aspects of the banking sector. Though I would mention some of them that I find particularly significant and challenging, such as Risk management in banking, International banking and regulation, Global risk management and derivatives, International corporate finance and International Financial Markets and Institutions. These modules provide an opportunity to enhance my knowledge and obtain broader international experience.
Have you used our careers team and what sort of advice would you give to prospective students about utilising the team?
I intend to contact the careers team in semester 2. During semester 1, I could not communicate due to my intense schedule and the adaptation process. But I do always track the work and support of the team they provide to the students with various announcements. I recommend the team to prospective students who want to try out professional experience in their field.
What skills have you learned studying at the School of Management and how will those help you progress your career?
Firstly, I want to note that I acquired an understanding of international banking practices during my studies at the university. Moreover, I am improving my skills in banking risk management. Also, I should mention that some courses are related to trading and are essential for strengthening my trading skills, which I can use in my future career.
Are you a member of any societies? Have you taken any other opportunities?
Currently, I am not a member of a particular community. However, I hope to create an Uzbek community with the support of the university. I believe we can launch this community because the number of students from Uzbekistan has been increasing recently.
How do you find the sports facilities at the University?
The university's wide range of student sporting facilities is worth mentioning. I am familiar with the sports facilities and activities available at the university. I intend to join some of them in the 2nd semester.
What are your three highlights about your course?
I can indeed say that the International banking and finance course has completely satisfied my expectations. The first impression is that the modules are concrete in banking, making them particularly compelling. In addition, the lecturers are well qualified, which is an equally important part of the course. I will conclude with the flexibility of the timetable, which seems to be very convenient for me.
What are your three highlights about living and studying in Swansea?
Swansea attracts me with its friendliness and rich multi-nationality. I have been to many lovely places in the city and have had positive impressions and memories. Secondly, it is an opportunity to be acquainted with Welsh and English culture. Thirdly, I have to mention the location of the University campuses. It certainly provides a distinctive pleasure during my studies and staying in the city.
What would you say to anyone considering applying here from your home country?
I would advise my compatriots to choose Swansea University. As my workplace funds my studies, I have already recommended my colleagues to apply to the university, and some of them have been interested and intend to apply.
