Job title: Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science
Job reference: WASYT
Location: Swansea
Closing date: noon on Friday 16th August 2024

Swansea University is a research-led university that thrives on exploration and discovery and provides innovative approaches to teaching delivery and an excellent student experience. Ranked 25th in the UK and 1st in Wales in the Guardian University Guide 2024, we currently have over 25,000 students across our two stunning waterfront campuses, offering a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that is key to the “Swansea experience”.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science was formed in 2021 and constitutes one of the University’s three faculties. The Faculty is constructed of 3 schools (Medicine, Health and Social Care, and Psychology), and houses at the heart of its research environment the Institute of Life Science. Recent results from REF2021 revealed that 85% of the faculty’s research is graded “world learning” or “internationally excellent”.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, this is a key post in the University Senior Leadership Team, and one that will provide strategic and visionary leadership for the Faculty, ensuring its academic and financial objectives are met, along with those of the wider University. We are seeking an analytical and strategic academic leader who can develop and deliver on organisational strategies, and who has the ability to lead, motivate and develop trust and respect. The new PVC will enhance the quality of the academic endeavour, enhance the local, national and global reputation of the University, drive efficiency, including new income streams, and achieve financial sustainability. In line with the University’s culture, behaviours and values, the new PVC will also be an excellent leader and foster a culture that encourages innovation, integrity and teamwork, and champions inclusivity. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to Swansea University.

As a Faculty, and as part of the wider University, we are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all our activities, and we invite candidates from under-represented groups to consider applying for this opportunity.
