About our Departmental Scholarships

The Mathematics Department of Swansea University offers Mathematics prizes/scholarships worth up to a total of £3000 for students starting their university studies in September 2025. The prizes will be awarded on the basis of a competitive two-and-a-half-hour examination which will be taken 12th March 2025. Usually, applicants take the exam in their school or college, but this year arrangements will be made to enable applicants to sit the exam remotely. If you would like to take the exam, you will need to make Mathematics at Swansea one of your UCAS selections.

These scholarships can be used in conjunction with our Excellence and Merit scholarships.

If you are interested in taking the scholarship exam, then you should complete and return a Maths Scholarship Exam Application form 2025 to us via email.

You can download the 2024 past examination paper here: Maths Scholarship Exam Paper 2024.

Note: The University will also award Excellence Bursaries worth £3,000 to students who achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent) and £2000 to students who achieve AAB at A-level (or equivalent).  For further details please see https://www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/scholarships/excellence-bursaries/

Ryan Davies

Ryan Davies from Coleg Sir Gar , Graig Campus

"Being awarded the scholarship has made the transition to University a far more positive experience than expected. Succeeding in the exam has shown me that Mathematics is truly what I wanted to study. The financial boost has allowed me to take up residence on campus which makes attending lectures much less stressful, allowing me to fully engage with my lectures. Now that I have been studying in Swansea for the past 2 months, I can honestly say It has been the best thing I have ever done. I cannot thank the Maths department enough for providing me with this opportunity".

Rowan Carroll from Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire

"My short time at university so far has been some of the best weeks of my life, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have earned my offer through the scholarship exam, I feel as though I have truly earned both my independence and my place here at Swansea, and wholeheartedly recommend anybody with similar ambitions to do the same".
