The module will examine the biological, psychological and social factors that contribute to patterns of health breakdown and ill health and develop the principles of health promotion.

The module will enable the adult field student to participate in the organisation, management and delivery of safe, quality care to patients and service users across all four fields of nursing practice in accordance with recognised legal, ethical, quality and professional frameworks for practice. Students will develop a critical understanding of the process of clinical governance and continuous quality improvement through leadership skills and apply these principles to the practice settings, using a range of communication skills, self-reflection, clinical judgment and critical evaluation of the evidence base for nursing practice.

Health promotion and public health are essential components of the nurse¿s role. The module will contribute to students¿ understanding of public health development, the nurse¿s role, and priorities for action. Key principles for health promotion and its role within public health will be explored across the lifespan in a variety of settings. Ways in which health related changes can be encouraged and supported will also be incorporated to equip the student for future clinical practice.

Promoting Health and Preventing Illness (Adult)
This module aims to provide students with an in depth understanding of public health development, the nurse¿s role and priorities for action such as inequalities, advocacy and partnership working. Key principles of health promotion and its role within public health will be explored within practice across the lifespan in a variety of settings.
A range of blended learning teaching approaches will be used within the module. Online learning resources are supported through the use of Canvas. Students will use a virtual individual or family from the Life Street online resource to further explore the dimensions of health and develop a collaborative group digital story using PowerPoint to explore how to promote the health of the person/people in their care.
Students will have the opportunity to attend a clinical placement in either a hospital or community setting.

Leadership in Education and Healthcare Practice
This module provides an introduction to leadership and management concepts and theories, situated within a
healthcare or educational context. It also introduces students to the approaches and evidence base of
leadership and management literature and organisational analysis. Consideration of contemporary leadership
and management issues in clinical leadership enables students to gain appreciation of the wider aspects of
public service, health systems, health professions education and organisational responses.
