About

Dr Giulio Nannetti is a Lecturer of the new MPharm programme within Swansea University Medical School, with ten years of research experience in the field of Virology and antiviral drug discovery.

After gaining a Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnologies at the University of Siena, Giulio obtained a PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Padua. During his PhD studies and following Research Associate positions at the University of Padua, Giulio was involved in many projects that mainly led to the discovery of several new antiviral agents of the influenza virus able to disrupt essential viral protein-protein interactions. In 2018, Giulio was awarded the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship and he joined Cardiff University to conduct a multidisciplinary project to develop new antiviral drugs for the treatment of dengue virus infection. More recently, in 2020, Giulio was appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Cardiff University under the Darlithwyr Disglair/Brilliant Lecturers development scheme.

Giulio’s primary research interest focuses on the application of multidisciplinary approaches for the identification and characterisation of new antiviral agents to treat different virus infections. He is particularly interested in developing new antiviral strategies based on the disruption of crucial viral protein-protein interactions to fight viral pathogens.
