About

Dr Jamie D Stacey is an international relations scholar who specialises in international relations’ theory (especially constructivism and critical constructivism), human rights, and ASEAN. He is particularly interested in the linguistic turn in international relations, and how various actors (especially non-western actors) use language and narrative to frame and contest international norms (especially human rights).

His current research adapts Dembour’s (2010) four schools of human rights (the four ways we conceptualise human rights) and applies it to international relations’ actors, aiming to further tease out the complex differences between various actors (including western and non-western actors such as ASEAN). In so doing, it seeks to contribute to the discussion on human rights, how we think about human rights in international relations, and how much more complex the story of human rights in international relations is when told through the lens of a multitude of actors (state and non-state, western and non-western etc.).

Besides international relations, Dr Stacey has previously written about political leadership (British-French comparative literature), and is also currently writing a philosophy/ethics paper on ‘the moral obligation to be (reasonably) fit’.
