About

I started my career at Swansea University in 2018 as a Scientific Officer (post-doctoral researcher) on the BlueFish Project. In 2020, I joined the Bioscience Technical Team based in the teaching labs in Wallace and Margam. This role involves setting up and facilitating the undergraduate practical sessions through preparation of materials, equipment, chemical solutions & reagents, and biological specimens. I also provide equipment training, technical support, and help/advice on health and safety, to students and academics. In 2022, I helped develop and implement the lab induction course run by the technical team for our undergraduate students.  I am also responsible for the care and curation of the department’s zoology museum.

My qualifications include a First Class Honours degree in BSc (Hons) International Wildlife Biology (University of Glamorgan), a Master of Science by Research degree titled “A Population Genetic Study of Manta birostris & Mobula Species.” (University of Glamorgan/University of South Wales) and a double-degree PhD titled “Evolution & Extinction of the Great Auk: A Palaeogenomic Approach”(Bangor University & University of Copenhagen). More recently, I have undertaken two short courses pertaining to working within the museum industry; Care and Management of Natural History Collections, and Fluid Preservation for Biological Specimens. I have also completed training in First Aid at Work, Chemical First Aid, Laboratory Chemical Risk Assessments, and Health and Safety Risk Assessments.
