About

Dr Weck works primarily with low-energy limits of string theory, in which the physics of quantum gravity can be approximated by theories of gravity. By studying exact solutions in these gravitational theories, we can learn about the nature of Quantum Field Theories describing particle interactions, about possible microscopic descriptions of black holes, and about deep connections between different research areas in physics. He received his PhD in physics in 2023 from Johns Hopkins University and has been with the theory group at Swansea since October 2023.

Career Highlights

Research

His current research is focused on developing solution generating methods for smooth and horizonless geometries which are asymptotically anti-de Sitter. These gravitational soliton solutions can help us study confinement in gauge theories, using holography, and could play a role in accounting for the entropy of black holes in terms of their microstates. More systematic methods for constructing and studying gravitational solitons with a given amount of supersymmetry will help advance both lines of research.
