Professor Steve Luzio is a clinical scientist involved in the measurement and interpretation of results related to diabetes including diagnosis of diabetes, the monitoring of diabetes control and beta-cell secretory products. He has established a nationally accredited central laboratory in the School of Medicine at Swansea University which is important for many UK and international projects. His expertise in clinical trials, particularly for the treatment of diabetes, has led to a long association with the pharmaceutical industry and more recently with the devices and diagnostics industry both within Wales and internationally. Professor Luzio is co-author of over 150 peer-reviewed papers and over 200 meeting abstracts on a broad spectrum of aspects of diabetes including; beta-cell secretion, complications of diabetes, treatment of diabetes, the methodology of measuring insulin and proinsulin-like polypeptides.
