About

Dr Tom Dunlop EngD, BEng MIMMM holds a BEng (hons, 1st) in Materials Science and Engineering and an EngD in Materials Engineering that focused on the development of thermoelectrics and other functional materials for the European Space Agency. He has since spent 6 years as a post-doctoral researcher working around the characterisation of 3rd generation photovoltaic devices within the SPECIFIC research centre, where he developed novel characterisation routines for improving the performance of printed PV devices.

Specialising in materials testing and characterisation Tom’s current role involves provided support for both academic and industrial partners on a wide range of techniques including XRD, XPS, SEM, optical microscopy and in-situ testing. In addition to this he provides teaching and training on techniques at all levels. To date, he has been involved in the publishing of a number of papers covering a wide range of topics including solar materials, mine water treatment, corrosion protection, advanced battery materials, hydrogen fuel cells and biosensors.
