At Swansea University, we are proud to deliver inspirational teaching informed by world-class research and excellence in professional practice, designed to help you excel. In fact, our teaching quality was the 4th most important reason students chose to apply to us in 2023 (Swansea University’s 2023 UG applicant survey, based on a list of 26 factors).

Underpinned by a robust Learning and Teaching Strategy, our staff work alongside experts in educational development to deliver an engaging and inclusive learning experience for all students - something that is reflected by 26 of our subjects appearing in the UK top 20 for NSS teaching satisfaction.*

We strive to ensure that our teaching continually develops, our teachers are always inspired, and our students have access to enriching and innovative study opportunities, which is part of the reason that the Guardian, the most teaching focussed UK league table, ranks Swansea 25th out of 122 UK Institutions (Guardian University Guide, 2024).

Here are just some of the ways you will benefit from studying at Swansea, with quotes from some of our students on their learning experiences:

Study in revolutionary learning environments that push the boundaries of traditional teaching

At Swansea University, you won't just learn in classrooms and lecture theatres. For instance, students in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences have access to Swansea University's Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre SUSIM - a world leading facility utilising a variety of simulation-based education methodologies.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a hub for innovative research, with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and facilities, and students studying Media related subjects in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will learn in impressive design suites and Virtual Reality Rooms.

Our Cultural Collections teams, including the internationally renowned and nationally-recognised, Egypt Centre, History of Computing Collection, Richard Burton Archives, and South Wales Miners’ Library provide access to rich resources and object-centred learning experiences that are unique to Swansea.

Inclusive academic and pastoral support is available for our diverse student population, and the Swansea Academy of Inclusivity works with colleagues across Swansea to ensure inclusive learning, teaching and assessment is accessible to all.

Swansea University is proud to be a Welsh institution, and therefore we empower students to use and learn through the Welsh language, if they choose to. Support for our Welsh speaking community is available through Academi Hywel Teifi.

Your feedback is shaping your education

"He [the lecturer] makes a massive effort to engage with everyone, whilst also making it a really comfortable and relaxed space to talk about our opinions. We discuss a lot of interesting topics that make us reflect a lot, in a positive way.“

Our ‘Together We Changed’ campaign shines a spotlight on all the fantastic changes that have happened as a result of student feedback, on all areas of their student experience, including teaching.

The campaign exists to keep students in the loop with all the actions that have been taken based on responses to student surveys, posts on Unitu, comments at Student Opinion Panels/focus groups, and other student engagement activity. By sharing your student views, it really does help us take the necessary steps towards enhancing your student experience.

The positive feedback our students provide on the lecturers and teaching at Swansea, feed into annual student nominated Excellence in Learning and Teaching and Student Support awards, highlighting the quality of the educational experience here.

Our academics care about how they teach

"I was so impressed by how much she cared about her students. Her passion really shone through, and I admired how much she was willing to listen and understand her students’ voices.“

Here in Swansea, we have an academy dedicated to training academic staff to continually improve the way we teach. Swansea Academy of Learning and Teaching (SALT) works with academic and professional staff across the University to enhance teaching, learning and assessment, supporting our high-quality student experience.

This work is supported by our Academic Quality Services department, who, using data and integrated systems and processes, deliver a sector-leading, innovative approach to quality assurance and enhancement, enabling Swansea to achieve and maintain an excellent teaching environment.

Our focus on how we teach has helped ensure that 37 of our subjects appear in the UK top 30 for Teaching (the average positivity score across questions 1 to 4 in the NSS 2024 of the institutions that appear in the Times Good University Guide providing subjects.)

Your future success is our current priority

"I would not have had half the academic success I've had this year without her teaching me, and I certainly would not have had half the fun.“

Two graduates at sunset by the beach

95% of students are in employment, study and/or other activities, such as travelling, 15 months after leaving Swansea University (HESA 2023).

This is because, beyond the classroom, we support students as they prepare for the graduate world.

Through Swansea’s Employability Academy, we help equip students with the tools they need to thrive when they leave us. Through innovative, bespoke career development courses and one to one consultations with our trained careers advisors, we take teaching further than what is prescribed in course syllabuses.

We truly care about the educational experience of our students during their time with us here in Swansea.
