Student Support and Experience

We have a dedicated Canadian Law Society; run by Canadian students for Canadian students. This will allow you to find a ‘home from home’ and meet people from a similar background to yourself, across all levels of study, at regular social events.

There are frequent employability and interactive workshops organised with the academic team and industry experts external to the university,  enabling you to pick up key skills and information.

In addition to this, there are a variety of work placements with law firms, barristers’ chambers, local government, local judiciary and with the Welsh Government, amongst others.

Law students at Swansea also have automatic entry to the Junior Law Division of the Swansea and District Law Society, with opportunities such as speed interviewing and CV workshops right the way through the degree programme.

Our dedicated Student Experience and Information Team are on hand to offer you a full range of support across any personal and study-related issues. You will also be assigned a Personal Tutor throughout your studies, who you will meet regularly for support with your academic performance and achieving your ambitions.

There is a full calendar of social events, including an annual School of Law Ball, and a Networking Dinner, which is a black tie event that offers excellent opportunities to network with industry professionals.

You’ll be joining a rich and diverse learning community. We aim to provide opportunities that will not only enhance understanding of your own subject area, but also make connections with and explore other subjects. As part of this, we’ve hosted an integrated research seminar series, student-led research evenings and subject taster sessions.

We work in partnership with our students to make sure their voices are heard. Our Student Representative system allows a team of elected Reps to provide regular feedback on the Student Experience.

We’re always looking to develop initiatives to target student wellbeing. Throughout the year, we send communications that direct students to support and resources at the time they most need it. We also run a range of events to help students take time out and relax.
