International Nursing Applicants

• A Level equivalent: BBB-BCC
• International Baccalaureate or equivalent: 30-32 to include HL4 or SL5 for English Language and Mathematics in a Health or science related course is desirable. To check our equivalent qualifications please visit our International Student pages for more guidance.
• IELTS or equivalent: IELTS overall 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in all individual components

On receiving an offer, aside to meeting all academic requirements you will also need to provide the following:

• Police Check/DBS Equivalent: Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable good conduct police reference (equivalent or alternative to DBS), completed and submitted within no more than six months of start date.** Further guidance for reference here.

• Health Declaration: Successful candidates will be required to provide an Occupational health accepted declaration of good health, completed and submitted within no more than six months of  start date.**

The selection process will consist of an online panel interview with two registered nurses, at least one of which will be an admission tutor.

The aim of the selection process is to ascertain your:

• compatibility to healthcare values
• awareness of your chosen programme and its demands
• verbal and non-verbal communication skills
• motivation for a career in nursing
• awareness of current issues in health

If you have any special needs for the interview then you may wish to inform the School as soon as possible prior to your date in order that appropriate arrangements can be made. We are happy to support any reasonable request but may find this difficult to accommodate on the day without prior notice.

The professional body for nursing (Nursing and Midwifery Council) require that every student has been assessed as suitable for nursing before they commence their education. 

At Swansea we have moved to a system that assesses your attitude and behaviour towards people and healthcare. This programme is competitive and the evaluation of your full application profile, encompassing work experience, personal statement, references, and academic qualifications, will play a crucial role in determining your progression through the selection process.

Successful candidates will be required to accept their offer within 28 days of receiving their offer as stated in the offer letter.  For those applying through UCAS – please follow the deadline as advised by UCAS.

International students applying for a Student Route Visa (previously known as Tier 4 Visas) will need a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) number.  This number confirms to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) that you have been accepted to study at a valid UK University.

To request a CAS statement, you will need to:

• pay a deposit of £4,000,
• have met all conditions on your offer and
• have accepted an unconditional offer. 
• complete all required information on CAS Shield

You will receive an invitation to CAS Shield after receiving your offer of place to study at Swansea University.

Please note that this programme will have an earlier start date than other programmes each year.

All students must arrive in person and be ready to commence the programme by the start date.

In order to enrol students will need to pay the first instalment (at least 50% of the first year tuition fee) before, or at enrolment. Further information on how to pay your fees can be found here.

Tuition Fees

Fees for full-time Undergraduate EU/International students will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.

Funding

Available to eligible international students* who choose to study in Wales and commit to working in Wales for 2 years following completion of the course, the funding from Health Education Improvement Wales (HEIW) covers the cost of tuition fees for the duration of the 3-year BSc (hons) Adult Nursing course as well as a £1000 grant each year towards living costs and a one-off settling-in grant £500 following arrival and enrolment in Swansea. 

Please note: Grants cannot be included as evidence of your finances for visa purposes. This is a tuition fees only bursary and will not cover any living costs.

Applicants who cannot commit to working in Wales for two years following completion of the course, or who do not meet the Terms and Conditions below, may only apply to the course on a self-funded basis.

Successful students are awarded UK Nursing (Adult) BSc from Swansea University, which is regulated and accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This will allow you to practice as a Nurse in the UK, although we cannot guarantee you a job in the UK. 

All applicants are advised to ensure that Swansea University's Nursing (Adult) BSc Degree is recognised by the medical/nursing standards authority of the country in which they wish to practise.
