Over 250 people attended the event at the Brangwyn Hall, which set the conference up for some insightful discussion and ideas.

On Monday 27th June 2022, Natural Products BioHUB took part in the Green Recovery Conference.

The full day event, organised by 4theRegion, brought together businesses from across the city and county of Swansea to network, learn and shape collective action on climate and environmental issues.

4TheRegion is an alliance of people, businesses and organisations across South West Wales, who have a shared vision to promote a future for the region which promotes the wellbeing of people and the planet.

Over 250 people attended the event at the Brangwyn Hall, which set the conference up for some insightful discussion and ideas.

The information from the conference has been captured, collated and brought together in an accessible format with recommended actions for various stakeholder groups – in the Swansea Green Business Report.

Nature Theme

The BioHUb sponsored the Nature theme at the conference, with BioHUB Project Manager, Dr Farooq Shah (and Swansea University Academic Experts in Aquatic Science and Algal Biotechnology, Professor Kam Tang and Dr Alla Silkina), facilitating discussions surrounding Nature and how to support local businesses to adopt greener, more sustainable practices to reduce the use of chemicals and their carbon footprint.

In addition, Dr Shah addressed how a growing regional Natural Product Sector can be supported by the BioHUB, through initiatives to promote business growth and development; and provide training opportunities to create a skilled local workforce. Such initiatives could potentially contribute to establishing more business and employment opportunities; and increased prosperity in the area, whilst addressing environmental issues.

Swansea University was also able to showcase examples of how existing research and development is already contributing to a greener, more resilient future, such as Algal biotechnology – the use of microalgae to capture CO2 emission and to up-cycle wastes from industries.
