Students studying together

Rennes 2 University is situated in Rennes, the capital city of Brittany in western France. It is the largest centre for research and higher education in arts, literature, languages, humanities and social sciences in western France and it’s strong academic reputation in these areas make it an excellent choice for those studying English to go on exchange. It is a multi-campus university made up of 3 campuses, and you will be based on the Villejean campus, the largest of the three. The University is rich in arts and culture, in particular the Villejean campus, which has many cultural sites and hosts a rich programme throughout the year. Accommodation, however, is in high demand so you should apply as early as possible when you apply to go on exchange.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important Considerations

  • Due to a high volume of students looking for housing, Rennes 2 advise you to start your search as early as possible. You can request a room when completing the application form but, rooms are not guaranteed and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Rennes 2 estimate monthly cost of living to be approx 650 Euros a month including rent, meals, transport and leisure. Expect a rise for 24/25.
  • Limited courses in English are available, you must review the course catalogue.
  • Students should have a B2 level in French. Please note that a minimum B1 level is required, and students who have a B1 level will need to attend French proficiency evening courses.
