Swansea University has been ranked joint 32nd in the 2021 Complete University Guide League Tables – with Complementary Medicine ranked 1st.
The main league table is based on ten measures: entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, graduate prospects, student-staff Ratio, spending on academic services, spending on student facilities, good honours degrees, and completion, and includes 130 institutions.
Swansea University remains the top university in Wales for graduate prospects and is ranked 13th in the UK.
The Complete University Guide also produces separate league tables covering 70 subjects, and this year Swansea University features in 41 of them – the highest ranked being Complementary Medicine, in which Swansea University’s Osteopathy course achieved 1st place. This degree is approved by the General Osteopathic Council and is one of few universities in the UK to offer this course.
Head of Interprofessional Studies at Swansea University’s College of Human and Health Sciences, Chantal Patel, comments: “Since 2015, Osteopathy has been ranked first under Complementary Medicine. I am very pleased and proud that the Osteopathy team, under Simon Devitt’s leadership, has maintained this position. It is down to the hard work of each and every member of the teaching team that has provided an excellent Course that this position has been maintained.
“Over the past three months, as a result of lockdown, the team has stepped up their efforts to embrace digital delivery of the contents of the programme to allow the students to continue with minimal disruption. The speed with which the team adapted, demonstrate their commitment to provide the best to their students. Hopefully, next year we will maintain our ranking.”
Programme Director of Osteopathy at Swansea University, Simon Devitt, said: “I am delighted and proud that we have retained the number one ranking in the Complete University Guide for the sixth consecutive year. It is a testament to hard work and commitment of the programme team and staff from across the College of Human and Health Sciences in helping to provide an outstanding experience for our students.”
Professor Paul Boyle, Vice-chancellor of Swansea University, said: “I am delighted that Swansea University has climbed the Complete University Guide league table for the fifth consecutive year, achieving our highest ever position in the guide. We know that institutional rankings are a key determining factor for prospective students, and this demonstrates our continued commitment to improvement as we enter our second century.
“Our success is testament to the hard work of staff from across our University and our Students’ Union, who endeavour to ensure that our students get the very best out of their time here at Swansea. We pride ourselves on the quality of our student experience and are focused on preparing our students for post-University life. Our graduates leave equipped with the skills and experiences they will need to thrive in their chosen careers and which we know employers value.
“It is fantastic to see our core values reflected in these rankings, and I am extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to this success.”
