At Swansea, our primary aim is to offer contemporary and practice-oriented teaching for our LLM students to enhance their employability prospects. To this end, we organize regular educational and training trips for them.
Our 2024-25 cohort enjoyed their first trip of the year in December and their host was the London P & I Club. The trip was organized in conjunction with the International Group of P & I Clubs, and apart from speakers from the London P & I Club (James Bean and John Warman), Chris Adie of the West of England P & I Club provided a unique perspective on the underwriting factors involved in the placement process, and Peter Modey of the UK P & I Club highlighted the critical role of loss prevention. The students found an invaluable networking opportunity during the trip and many of them were inspired to hear about various opportunities open to them in London and other major commercial centers in the insurance and financial sectors following the completion of their LLM degree at Swansea.
The students were accompanied to London by Dr Tabetha Kurtz-Shefford and Professor Leloudas. Following the trip Dr Kurtz-Shefford commented: "The collaboration we have with the International Group of P & I Clubs exemplifies our commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry. By providing our students with direct access to leading practitioners, we ensure they are well-equipped to tackle the challenges of the ever-evolving legal landscape. We are grateful to Annie Stow for organizing the day and ensuring our students get the most out of this trip.”
