Swansea University’s Steve Cook, Professor of Econometrics and Head of the Department of Economics, has been appointed to the Executive Board of The Economics Network.
The Economics Network is the largest and longest-established academic organisation devoted to improving university teaching and learning of economics in the UK. Its Executive Board is the decision-making body responsible for leading its activities in the Higher Education sector.
Since joining Swansea University in 2000, Professor Cook has held numerous leadership positions including the roles of Head of School and Head of Department, while establishing a reputation for excellence in both research and teaching.
Professor Cook will take a place on this board as one of ten select members drawn from across the UK; serving alongside eminent economists from institutions including Imperial College London, London School of Economics and Bristol, Manchester and Warwick Universities.
As a highly active researcher, Professor Cook has published in several disciplines including econometrics, economics, mathematics, and statistics. In addition to holding numerous editorial positions at a variety of journals. Steve’s research profile complements his teaching activities where he has frequently published innovative teaching materials and pedagogical research, delivered workshops and addresses to international audiences, and received HEA funding for teaching innovations.
As a result of a sustained record of impact and influence extending beyond his own institution, Steve has received two national teaching awards, in addition to being one of a very small number of academics globally to hold the highest fellowships of both Advance HE and SEDA.
Speaking about the appointment, Professor Cook had this to say:
‘I am delighted to have the opportunity to increase my involvement with the Economics Network. It is a truly prestigious organisation and to be invited to serve as a member of its Executive Board is a huge honour’.
