In a proud moment for the School of Management, Alex Lewis, a final year BSc Marketing student, has been named the inaugural winner of the 'Student Ambassador of the Year' award by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
The prestigious award recognises the significant contributions made by individuals to both the professional body and the marketing profession through their dedication and commitment to voluntary work.
The CIM volunteer awards feature various categories, including Education Ambassador, Communications Ambassador, and Events Ambassador of the Year. This year, in an exciting development, the CIM introduced the 'Student Ambassador of the Year' award, aimed at honouring outstanding student volunteers who actively promote the CIM's initiatives and events within their academic institutions.
As the BSc Marketing and BSc Business Management (Marketing) degree programs at SoM are accredited by the CIM, students like Alex Lewis have the unique opportunity to participate as Student Ambassadors for the organization during their studies. Throughout her academic journey, Alex demonstrated remarkable dedication to her voluntary role as a CIM Student Ambassador, where she played a crucial role in promoting CIM Marketing Club webinars and newsletters to her fellow students.
Upon hearing the news, Alex Lewis expressed her joy, stating, "I was absolutely delighted to find out that I had won the Student Ambassador of the Year Award! I had thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent volunteering for the CIM as it provided me with an opportunity to gain practical marketing experience whilst studying my degree programme, so it was a lovely surprise to discover that my voluntary work had been recognised by a prestigious professional body."
Alex further emphasised the invaluable experiences she gained through her voluntary role, which allowed her to write social media posts to promote online events, attend virtual meetings with volunteers from across the UK, and contribute to the CIM (Wales) website through her webinar reviews.
"I am so grateful that I have had the chance to engage with the CIM throughout my studies and would encourage future marketing students to take advantage of the opportunity to volunteer for the CIM as a Student Ambassador, as it has enabled me to gain relevant experience whilst enhancing my understanding of marketing," Alex added.
The award ceremony took place online, where Alex received her well-deserved recognition alongside other CIM award nominees and winners, many of whom are seasoned professionals in the marketing industry. Despite being at an early stage in her marketing career, Alex feels privileged to have been acknowledged by such a prestigious body and looks forward to applying the skills and knowledge she gained through her voluntary experience in her future endeavours.
Alex Lewis's achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring marketing students at Swansea University and beyond, illustrating the significance of active involvement in professional bodies like the CIM. Her success as the inaugural 'Student Ambassador of the Year' highlights the boundless opportunities that volunteering offers for students to enrich their academic journey and gain real-world experience in their chosen field.
SoM proudly commends Alex Lewis for her exceptional commitment and dedication to her voluntary role and wishes her continued success as she embarks on an exciting career in marketing.
