Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?
I chose Swansea University for a variety of reasons.
1) I attended a webinar for Economics and got to see some of my lecturers and other members of staff. The modules seemed interesting, and I could feel the enthusiasm on the faces of the lecturers. I thought to myself, 'Oh, those lecturers look really excited... That seems contagious!
2) I’m a nature person. The opportunity to live by the beach and have some surrounding mountains? Sure! Why not?
3) Student reviews were highly positive. A lot of family and friends that are based in the UK are involved in the educational industry and strongly recommend Swansea University.

How have you found the social life at Swansea University?
I’m a member of the Economics Society, Christian Union, Robotics Society and the Buddy Network. The various societies have socials at least once every week. Collectively, the socials are a mix of partying, bowling, academics, competitions, Bible study and many other fun activities. I would recommend joining a society because they give you a sense of belonging and community. They help you form friendships and also gain lots of knowledge. You get to do what you love and enjoy it with like-minded people. It is a great feeling.
There are also tons of events like the Bigger Picture Festival, an International Christmas, Picture Your Home in a Boomerang, and student union events that are held all through the year on both campuses. In short, the social life at Swansea uni is quite extensive and more than adequate for students.

How has your experience been adapting to the differences between your home country and the UK?
It has been a smooth experience so far. I came from a very lively and bubbling city. However, Swansea Bay was quite the opposite. That was a definite plus for me. Food-wise, there are international shops in Swansea, so it was possible to still have some home meals. There was definitely a huge difference in weather conditions, but I adapted and grew to love the UK weather and its inconsistencies.

What kind of support have you received from the university as an international student?
I’ve used the FHSS employability services for CV and cover letter review, interview preparation and assessment centre preparation. Oh! These individuals are simply great! Their patience, well-detailed information, general outlook, professionalism and everything else is simply wonderful. I always complete their sessions feeling refreshed and extra confident.

How would you describe your experience living in Swansea? What do you like most about the city?
My experience living in Swansea has been fabulous! To the extent that I chose to return for further study. The best thing about living in Swansea, which is probably the most common response is simply the magnificent and attractive views. I’ve got loads of nature pictures on my phone and almost everyone I know does as well. Swansea is just beautiful! There are also a lot of pleasant people in Swansea that will do all they can to assist you. If you get lost or don’t know how to deal with a situation, ask anyone around for help and they'll most likely sort out the situation for you.

What advice would you give to other students considering studying at Swansea University?
Have an open mind, join societies, and remember your first purpose is your academics but don't forget to have fun as well. Uni life is rather short. Make friends, talk to lots of people, build relationships, you can never know who will help you one day.

Is there anything you wish you had known before coming to Swansea that would have helped you?
Don’t use umbrellas, have hoodies and jackets instead, it is very windy in Swansea. Join societies right from the first few weeks. Your lecturers are friendly, just talk to them.
