I chose to study at Swansea University because of the School of Psychology's outstanding reputation. The University also offers a wide range of opportunities to gain practical experience in psychology, which is crucial for me as I work towards my dream of becoming an Educational Psychologist. Additionally, Swansea's vibrant and supportive community, coupled with its great location, makes it the perfect place for me to study.
The psychology course provides a rich learning experience, and one of my favourite aspects is the work placement module. I also enjoy studying 40 credits of my course through the medium of Welsh, which has helped me develop closer relationships with lecturers in smaller, more personal groups, fostering a supportive and engaging study environment.
As an undergraduate, I’ve embraced opportunities to enhance my experience at Swansea University and promote inclusivity. I serve as a Student Ambassador and work with the Student Advisory Committee on Racial Inclusion, where I help champion diversity as an Indian person fluent in Welsh. These roles have allowed me to make meaningful contributions to the student community while developing valuable leadership and communication skills.
Through my involvement with Discovery SVS, I’ve also had the chance to promote the Welsh language and build connections within the community by organizing activities such as Welsh love spoon-making sessions and running a weekly Welsh Club. These experiences have been enriching and rewarding.
Swansea University provides extensive support for students who wish to study and engage through the medium of Welsh. This has enabled me to cultivate skills that will be highly beneficial in my future career as an Educational Psychologist, where understanding linguistic and cultural needs is essential for creating inclusive and effective support for children and their families. The University's commitment to the Welsh language is reflected in the availability of support services, mentoring, and career advice in Welsh, ensuring that the language remains a central part of the student experience.
To prospective students considering Swansea University, I would encourage you to take full advantage of the many opportunities and support systems available, particularly through the medium of Welsh. Swansea offers an inclusive and supportive environment with countless opportunities to grow academically and professionally, all while enjoying a truly unique and personal university experience.
