Andrew Treharne our Singleton campus print room technician is one of our sustainability heroes on campus!
Print Services have worked tirelessly to streamline the university’s printing services, cutting down on waste and also bringing in new forms of recycling.
Since January Andy has been able to recycle over 30 pull-up banner bases which would have gone to be recycled, giving them a new lease of life and saving precious resources. This has also saved department budgets by discounting 50% on this service compared to a new banner.
Old banners get delivered, and an inspection on the banner is carried out to make sure they can be re-used.
Top tips for recycling your banners:
- If they are broken, they are for recycling (via the Waste helpdesk) and not reuse.
- Make sure the bags are in good condition and not torn or damp.
- If you have any spare parts, drop them to Print Services as the poles can be used separately.
- Check if they are the right size 800mm wide to be reused.
New orders:
- Have a 3-5 days turnaround time.
- If you do buy new banners externally please buy at 800mm width so they can be re-used in the future.
We have rewarded Andrew for all his hard work with one of our new UN Sustainable Development Goal pin badges!
If you’d like to get your hands on one of our new awesome UN SDG badges send us in your sustainable actions on campus.
