About The Role
This internship focuses on supporting the development of software tools for analyzing Welsh language fluency. The intern will begin by familiarizing themselves with an existing 4D Welsh dataset, learning its structure, and assisting in its expansion by following established data collection methods.
The intern will help collect 4D data (capturing spatial and temporal information) and audio recordings from participants in a user study, using our 3dMD camera system. This includes setting up equipment, ensuring accurate data capture, explaining the project background to participants, and coordinating time slots for data collection.
After data collection, the intern will assist in cleaning, annotating and organizing the data using basic processing techniques to prepare it for further analysis. They will also contribute to developing software tools, including a prototype smartphone app designed to collect, compare, and analyze Welsh fluency from spoken audio.
The intern will have the opportunity to work with deep learning tools and libraries, applying few-shot learning techniques under supervision, with a focus on coding and implementation rather than algorithm development.
Regular progress reporting to supervisors and collaboration with the team are essential aspects of the role. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to develop software skills and gain experience in data handling, within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Welsh Language Skills
The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
