About The Role

This will be a 3 month internship working 35 hours per week.

Within the Population Data Science group at Swansea University Medical School we host a ranged of word-leading research programmes and initiatives including: the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank, enabling population health research, holding billions of records from data sources covering the Welsh population. The Secure e Research Platform (SeRP) complete customisable solution for Trusted Research Environments. The Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) Data Portal, a repository and analysis environment for dementia-optimised cohort data. Administrative Data Research (ADR) Wales bringing together data science experts, leading academics and specialist teams within Welsh Government producing evidence that shapes future policy decisions.

Our interdisciplinary workforce is involved with various major projects and research programmes, conducting methodological and applied skills across multiple disciplines to support and achieve our world-leading innovations. These skills include but are not limited to software development, database development/management, epidemiology, Geographical Information Systems, statistics, data mining, data visualisation, infrastructure-related projects, website development, training and end-user support, project management and more.

This summer internship program offers a 3 month paid position to students interested in gaining, developing and applying their skills and experience within a real-world highly secure, state of the art environment. It is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance your experience on your path to further employment, with applicants who can work well as part of a team whilst being responsible for their work and are interested in contributing to delivering a measurable output within their internship.

This internship is open to all degree programs at Swansea University or elsewhere. It will be especially relevant for students from disciplines who have the skills and expertise listed above. Experience in line with the Summer Intern Brochure Intern project IDs (see specific skills and suitable background is identified alongside each Intern Project ID).

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.

Please note there is no funding available in addition to the salary to cover accommodation or travel costs.

Internships are offered on a full-time basis, which is a standard 35-hour working week, but there is some flexibility where appropriate.

Students on a tier 4 visa are limited to working 20 hours per week, and Masters students 20 hours per week.
