Throughout 2024, research undertaken by the members of the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL) has continued to contribute to the development of case law and legal doctrines/concepts in the United Kingdom and abroad.

A chapter (Chapter 33) written by Professor George Leloudas in Shawcross and Beaumont, the leading practitioner’s book on the Montreal Convention 1999, was cited by approval by the New South Wales Court of Appeal in Air Canada v Evans [2024] NSWCA 153.

One of the articles published by Professor Simon Baughen in the Lloyd's Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly in 2008- Economic Loss Claims and the Hague-Visby Gross Weight Limitation Figure- was referred to by the High Court at [102] in Trafigura Pte LtdTKK Shipping Pte Ltd [2023] EWHC 26 (Comm).

Similarly, Professor Andrew Tettenborn’s work has been cited by various English courts (including the Supreme Court). Professor Tettenborn is the Chief Editor of the seminal text in Tort Law (Clerk & Lindsell), now in its 24th edition, and the chapters he wrote have been cited in the following cases so far in 2024:
