Swansea University has been named one of the UK’s top 100 most inclusive employers for LGBTQ+ staff for the eighth time in a row.

Each year, Swansea University participates in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, which measures the efforts made by workplaces to tackle discrimination and create an inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (LGBTQ+) employees.

This year, Swansea University has achieved its highest-ever position in the Index, rising from 12th to fifth place.

Swansea University has also improved its ranking among participating education sector entrants, moving from fifth in 2023 to second in 2024. Additionally, the University has retained its Gold standard award, recognizing that Swansea has embedded LGBTQ+ equality into its core areas of work at the highest level.

Professor Judith Lamie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), said: “This improvement in our ranking, along with the retention of our Gold level award, reflects the hard work and efforts of colleagues across our University, including our LGBTQ+ Staff Network, to ensure that our University is as inclusive as possible. We would like to reiterate our sincere thanks to every colleague who has been part of this activity, both over the past twelve months and in previous years.

“Our participation in the Stonewall WEI is just one of the many ways through which we celebrate our pride in the diversity of our University community and our commitment to championing equality".
