Two Swansea University academics have been appointed to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029 People, Culture and Environment (PCE) pilot panels.

REF 2029 is to expand the definition of research excellence by recognising the diverse research, roles, and individuals that contribute to the UK's research environment and part of this will be to develop the PCE element.

The PCE pilot exercise will test the submission and assessment of various PCE elements, with the PCE pilot panels conducting the assessment. Feedback from the pilot panels will be included in the final report, shaping the REF 2029 guidance on PCE.

Professor Helen Griffiths, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, commented on the appointments:

"I am delighted that Swansea University colleagues have been chosen to contribute to this pivotal initiative. Their expertise will be invaluable in shaping the future of research assessment in the UK and this recognition underscores the high calibre of research and academic leadership at Swansea University."
