I chose Swansea specifically from all the other universities in Wales because of its location in the city and the walk down to the beach. I'm studying at the Singleton campus and because the campus is quite small you get to know people's faces around the place which gives a homely and intimate feel.
I'm studying History, which is a broad subject with the option to learn about different time periods. Studying this subject in Swansea has been great as I do some of the course in Welsh. In doing so I have met people like me and this has also introduced me to other societies with similar interests. I especially enjoy learning about the Renaissance and the art from this period. I believe that studying part of the course through the medium of Welsh has helped me to gain confidence in the Welsh language. I've developed the skill of making oral presentations to the class that prepare me for a future career where I have to speak and carry myself confidently.
My experience so far has been very positive as I've taken advantage of the opportunities to meet new people. By joining societies outside of my studies, I've been able to try new things. The Welsh community here in Swansea is fantastic. I've joined the GymGym and we meet fortnightly and arrange great trips with other Welsh speaking students.
