Ben our Biodiversity Officer and Chris from Zombie Plastics with a trailer full of waste collected during a beach clean

Reducing plastic waste and turning it into something positive

We invited Zombie Plastics to our beach cleans at Crymlyn Burrows, our SSSI at Bay Campus, to have a chat with us and to see where we could work together. Zombie Plastics are a local company who collect waste plastic from beaches, homes and businesses across Swansea and Gower, then sort, clean and shred it, before moulding it into durable, sustainable and unique products.  This helps to reduce plastic waste, reduce emissions and support a circular economy.

They were blown away by how much plastic waste washes up on the beach.  We had a successful beach clean with over 20 volunteers out in force to make a huge impact in collecting as much waste as possible.

A full trailer of waste was collected, and Chris from Zombie Plastics got testing on the beach to see what he could use back at base for some awesome circular economy products for our team to raise awareness of our beach cleans, and the actions we take to protect Crymlyn Burrows our SSSI.

Zombie Plastics took away lots of plastics and fishing rope from the beach clean to create some personalised carabiners for water bottles, car keys and all sorts of handy storage solutions. This helps to divert contaminated plastic waste from non-recyclable waste streams into circular economy sustainable giveaways for our team to give to our brilliant beach cleaners; a truly sustainable giveaway!
